ABOUT US
Background & Vision
After witnessing the crippling effects of poverty, violence, and substance abuse of community children and families every day, veteran WMAR-TV video journalist, Preston Mitchum, Jr., founded The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation in 2002. His vision for the foundation is to effect major change in the Baltimore Metropolitan community by enriching the lives of children and adults who desperately need assistance. The foundation also fuels his passion to encourage others to make a difference in our community. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization dedicated to providing people the opportunity to donate their time by volunteering for donation drives, youth initiatives, and making financial contributions for organization projects.
Mission
The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation is dedicated to addressing the crippling effects of poverty and violence on at-risk youth in our society. We seek to educate, empower, and provide a vision of a brighter future for these youth through after-school programming and community-based services.
Action Plan
The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation will accomplish this mission by providing after-school career awareness programs in elementary and middle schools. The media (television and radio) will be used as both a communication and technical training tool thus sparking the engagement of individuals in the community to give of their time, talent, and resources.)
