Presenting Possibilities for Brighter Futures
The PMJ Foundation’s Career Awareness Project (CAP) is an after-school program that brings the professional world into the classroom. Community volunteers share their own careers with our students, helping at-risk youth explore the infinite possibilities of college and career choices open to them.
Background and Vision of the Foundation
After witnessing the crippling effects of poverty, violence, and substance abuse on community children and families every day, veteran WMAR-TV video journalist Preston Mitchum, Jr. founded The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation in 2002. His vision is to effect meaningful change across the Baltimore Metropolitan community by enriching the lives of children and adults who desperately need support. The foundation also reflects his passion for inspiring others to make a difference. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, the foundation gives people the opportunity to get involved by volunteering at donation drives and youth initiatives or by contributing financially to support its projects.

The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation is dedicated to addressing the crippling effects of poverty and violence on at-risk youth in our society. We seek to educate, empower, and provide a vision of a brighter future for these youth through after-school programming and community-based services.
Action Plan: After School Career Awareness Programs
The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation will accomplish this mission by providing after-school career awareness programs in elementary and middle schools. The media (television and radio) will be used as both a communication and technical training tool thus sparking the engagement of individuals in the community to give of their time, talent, and resources.

Preston Mitchum, Jr has dedicated his life to giving back and making a difference. Born in Bronx, New York his family moved to Langley Park, MD in 1981. His family established the Mitchum Lawn and Landscaping business shortly after. This is where his father, Mitchum Sr. worked for over 30 years, creating beautiful lawns and establishing relationships throughout the community.
Preston Jr. is a graduate of Towson State University where he took his love for video and became an 18-year veteran news photographer for WMAR-TV in Baltimore, Maryland.
During this time, he founded The PMJ Foundation to create change in the Baltimore community. The foundation’s vision is to impact families through programs and services that offer positive growth. They have served thousands throughout Maryland.
Following the passing of his father, Preston assumed leadership of the family business and remains committed to upholding the values, integrity and quality of service his family established. He will continue that legacy for years to come.
