Presenting Possibilities for Brighter Futures

More Than 100,000 Lives Impacted Since 2002 – For more than two decades, the PMJ Foundation has been committed to creating positive opportunities and providing meaningful support to children, families and communities throughout the Baltimore region.

Since 2002, our annual Back to School Campaign has supported approximately 1,500 students each year with school supplies and resources, representing an estimated 36,000 student supports over 24 years. Our annual Holiday Drive has supported approximately 1,000 families each year, helping provide gifts, necessities and hope during the holiday season. Over more than two decades, that represents approximately 24,000 family supports. Since 2006, our Career Awareness Project has also introduced more than 2,000 students to career opportunities through hands-on after-school experiences, professional speakers and educational activities.

While many of the families and children we serve may benefit from more than one of our programs, the collective reach of these initiatives represents tens of thousands of direct supports. When combined with our other community programs, partnerships and outreach efforts, the PMJ Foundation has positively impacted an estimated more than 100,000 children, families and individuals since 2002. For us, these numbers are more than statistics. They represent children who started a school year with confidence, families who experienced the joy of the holidays, and young people who discovered possibilities for their future.

For more than 20 years, PMJ Foundation has remained committed to one simple mission: creating positive vibes, creating opportunities and leaving every community we touch a little better than we found it.

Background for the CAP Project

The PMJ Foundation’s Career Awareness Project (CAP) is an after-school program that brings the professional world into the classroom. Community volunteers share their own careers with our students, helping at-risk youth explore the infinite possibilities of college and career choices open to them.

Background and Vision of the Foundation

After witnessing the crippling effects of poverty, violence, and substance abuse on community children and families every day, veteran WMAR-TV video journalist Preston Mitchum, Jr. founded The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation in 2002. His vision is to effect meaningful change across the Baltimore Metropolitan community by enriching the lives of children and adults who desperately need support. The foundation also reflects his passion for inspiring others to make a difference. As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, the foundation gives people the opportunity to get involved by volunteering at donation drives and youth initiatives or by contributing financially to support its projects.

A Mission to Educate & Empower

The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation is dedicated to addressing the crippling effects of poverty and violence on at-risk youth in our society. We seek to educate, empower, and provide a vision of a brighter future for these youth through after-school programming and community-based services.

Action Plan: After School Career Awareness Programs

The Preston Mitchum, Jr. Foundation will accomplish this mission by providing after-school career awareness programs in elementary and middle schools. The media (television and radio) will be used as both a communication and technical training tool thus sparking the engagement of individuals in the community to give of their time, talent, and resources.
